Random 3am thought . . .

Today (this morning, around 1am), I was looking for something to watch. I had one more yarn to spin and knew I needed something on that would help keep me awake. I start flipping through channels and there are 3 movies on . . .

Purple Rain
Footloose
The Doors (with Val Kilmer)

I actually opted for Footloose since it seemed the least depressing/least serious of the three, but it made me realize an odd thing . . .

almost all of the movies that I remember as being my favorites, from when i was a kid, or just younger, are all "musicals" - not, well, actual musicals, but movies that have lots of music in them - here is a short list -

Grease
Xanadu
Footloose
Purple Rain

plus, I love the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The main 80s movie that doesn't fit this list is The Outsiders. I loved that movie, and the book, too. Not much music in that one, if I recall, though it did have the Robert Frost poem in it . . .

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I knew most of this from the top of my head, but when I looked it up realized i had missed two lines (the leaf subsides to leaf and eden lines)

This one always makes me think of another poem snippet that was in another book I read back then . . . Beat the Turtle Drum . . . the line was "O dance along the silver sand and beat the turtle drum, that youth may last forever and sorrow never come". I'd definitely have to look that one up as I don't remember its origins at all - just remember it was in a book that i read.

okay, that is my random thought at 3am and now i must sleep! and, just to make this not seem like someone else hijacked my blog and posted, here are two yarn pictures! :) (all new ones recently listed on etsy)

Are those my vintage component squistastic skeins up there? I just love that yarn! Always so soft and bouncy and fluffy. I love working with this version of your yarns.
