More Bamboo!

Here are some more pictures of the handspun bamboo yarns--I spun "Pretty in Pink" on Wednesday and "Sun Roses" tonight.

Bust's Girl Wide Web!

So, I'm now listed on bust.com's GirlWideWeb! Please check it out!

Chocolate Covered Cherries

Chocolate Covered Cherries is a wonderfully soft handdyed handspun novelty art yarn. The fiber is superwash merino wool and dyed by chickswithsticks aka sprouty25 on etsy! It was a dream to spin! I added in some novelty yarns for texture and plied with thread. I have two skeins available. Both are available on my website or etsy.

Here are some more pictures:

More Bamboo!

I did spin up a single ply yarn last night from more handdyed Bamboo fiber from HollyEQQ
I don't have a complete shot yet, but here is one of the fiber right before spinning and a shot of it on the niddy noddy:

Sea Monster is now listed on etsy HERE.

More to come later!

Something Different . . .

Last night I tried spinning bamboo fiber for the first time. I got some wonderful dyed bamboo from HollyEQQ and decided to try and spin it up last night. It actually spun pretty easily, as long as I could control the fly-aways, and I did pre-draft it pretty extensively.

Here is a shot of the single on the bobbin:

It is *very* difficult to photograph because of the wonderful shine of the fiber.

I wasn't sure whether or not to ply it, but I really don't like curly-cue singles, so I plied it with some thread. Here are two shots--the first with flash and the second without:

I actually really like how it turned out and it is soo shiny and soft! This is 84 yards bulky weight yarn. It should be up on my website later today and might show up one etsy at a later date.

Since I enjoyed spinning this, I plan on spinning up another colorway tonight!

So, I plan on doing separate entries for all the new yarns, one per day, so here goes . . .

"Patience" is a handspun two-ply Merino DK weight yarn. It was spun from the February Fiber of the Month from Spunky Eclectic, called "Forecast". I am calling the finished yarn "Patience" because that is exactly what it took for me to get through spinning it! I much prefer spinning bulky yarns--I know I can finish one in the same amount of time as a hockey, baseball, or football game! (Okay, it may not be good to admit, but this IS usually the type of thing on the TV when I spin.) On the other hand, this two-ply yarn took MANY nights to spin! I finally managed to finish it up on Friday evening. I was so happy once it was done, not to mention amazed at the amount of yardage I got from the near-8 oz of fiber! One skein is 288 yards and the other is 240! This yarn is on etsy here! Here are a few more pictures:

Buried in promos

So I haven't been spinning the last few days because I've been putting together promos to send off for craft show swag bags. I am actually trying to add a 2-yard yarn sample to each business card. I did over 100 of them on Sunday night, along with 25 "Kitty Minis" which are sample skeins of 10-30 yards. I've got *500* more cards to do to mail so they are received by the deadline of June 1! I better get going!

BUT, I couldn't resist doing some spinning last night, and the end result is "Sunset Gold" hand spun novelty art yarn, with flowers! I also knit up a hat last week--it is knit with the YarnWench yarn called "Attitude" but I am calling my hat "Arizona Sunset". Here are some pictures:

Sunset Gold Handspun Yarn & Arizona Sunset Knit Hat

Tonight, it is back to the promos, but I will be listing "Sunset Gold with Flowers" and it's flower-less companion on etsy tonight! The hat will be listed on my website.

Turquoise Rose - New 2ply Yarn!

Last night I finished spinning up the Spunky Eclectic Fiber of the Month for *January* called "Walkabout". I spun it into a 2ply that I'm calling "Turquoise Rose" and have one skein of about 165 yards (done & pictured) and one skein of about 200 yards (not pictured yet) for a total of 365 yards! I've got the one skein on etsy HERE. The other one should be there or on my website tonight! Here are a couple of pictures:

Meet the Grrlz Pt. 2

Yesterday I told you about Jinx. I wasn't able to get her kitten pictures scanned last night, but here is another of my favorites of her:
She used to sleep in my open drawers alot. I think it was to hide from Bug:

So, yes, that brings us to Bug Juice. Bug Juice is an Oregon kitty as I got her when I lived in Roseburg, Oregon. She was a stray that my supervisor at the library brought to work in hopes of finding her a home. Bug was a smelly kitten (now she's a master groomer!) and had quite the personality. Jinx was none to happy when I brought her home, and this picture shows them as close as they would get at that time:
This really is the quintessential "Kitty Grrlz" picture! :)

During this time in Oregon, Jinx steered clear of Bug, often hiding out in the closet full of boxes:
From Oregon, I moved to California briefly. Here is a picture of them both in my display cases:
They both actually went in there *willingly* I did not put them in there!

After a year or so in California I wised up and realized I truly was a Mid-Western girl at heart and returned to Wisconsin. This is when Jinx really mellowed alot and Bug got fat(er)!
Then, in 2004, Jinx died. It was really traumatic because I should have known something was wrong and didn't get her to the vet in time. I'm pretty sure she died in my arms on the way there. I still miss her--she used to sleep by my head every night and had a bad habit of always following me into the bathroom--of course she did this to beg for water from the tap--she loved to drink out of the sink faucet.

That left a hole in "kitty grrlz", but Bug has stepped up and been a great help to my crafting . . . umm, well, not *really* but she tries:

Meet the Grrlz!

So, Kitty Grrlz really is just me. I do the spinning and the knitting and picture-taking and the listing and the craft shows, etc., BUT a huge part of the *identity* of Kitty Grrlz are my two cats, Bug Juice and Jinx.

Jinx is no longer with me, but she lives on in the many pictures I have of her. She was my "original" "bitch kitty" which later evolved into my "kitty gRRl". I got her when I was in college, from the Brady Street pet store on the (lower) East Side of Milwaukee. She was kinda sickly compared to the other kittens available, and my choice was between her and a rambunctious orange kitten with lots of spunk. Jinx was the small, quiet one, but I chose her. I know she *needed* me more than the orange kitty as the orange kitten would have no problem finding a home. Jinx, on the other hand, might not have been as lucky. So, I took her home and she became my companion through my last years of college and grad school. Tomorrow I will post a picture of Jinx as a kitten, but here she was a few years old in her favorite spot in my apartment when I lived in California:
Jinx always looks so sad in pictures, but later in life (once I resettled back in Wisconsin) she seemed to be much happier and relaxed and even more socialable as she always was kindof antisocial when people were around.) Here she is getting into some trouble:

Jinx, the original kitty grrl, really is the reason for my name, Kitty Grrlz!

Tomorrow, I will tell you about Bug and show a few more pictures of Jinx!

New Yarns!

Here are the fruits of my spinning yesterday:

They are both spun with handdyed merino superwash wool from sprouty25 on etsy. Each has two Moda Dea yarns spun in and one is plied with orange thread and the other is plied with purple variegated thread. Both will be up on my website later and possibly on etsy tomorrow.

It felt so good to be spinning. I've missed it this week as I worked on my website. I have some more fiber ready to be spun tomorrow -- will be working on some 2plys this week!

I AM going to SPIN Today!

So, I've got a few errands to run this morning, but then I am coming home to SPIN! I've got some wonderful fiber (more merino superwash from sprouty25) all ready to go. This time I'm going to be spinning in some soft and fuzzy novelty yarns in and plying it with thread . . .

then, it is back to spinning two-plys! after getting all of my items listed on my new website, I realize I don't have many 2plys at all!

and yes, the website is all up and running! yeah!

AND, i had my first HAPPY HOUR sale last night on etsy! How exciting!

okay, off to get the errands out of the way . . .

All fixed!

Well, we were able to restore/fix my website, but I had to spend all night re-adding all of my items.

I have definitely learned my lesson and will not attempt to do anything other than add items from now on! :)

I did manage to add a few more items and should be able to finish up tomorrow.

Now, I just want to SPIN SPIN SPIN! I've hardly spun at all this week, being a little obsessed with getting the website up and running, and I have to work Sunday, but you can bet I will be spinning on Saturday--I'm going into withdrawal!

New Web Site Currently Down

So, due to me being a total idiot, my nice new website is unavailable and I don't know when it will be back up!

What I learned: don't try to upgrade if you don't know anything about what you're trying to upgrade!

Some new yarns!

So, here are a few new yarns from the past few days.

The first is "Mermaid Locks" and it is spun with handdyed merino wool from the Yarn Wench
It also has dyed Romney locks spun in for a little something extra--I call it my 2ply with Flair! :)

Mermaid Locks is available on etsy HERE!

And then there is "Punk Rock Princess" and "Punk Rock Valentine". These were both spun from a handdyed Merino Wool/Tussah Silk blend dyed by Pigeon Roof Studios.

Punk Rock Princess is plied with thread that has Swarovski crystals in Jet and Garnet strung on it, they are hard to see in the pictures, but there are over 30 of them on this 75 yard skein:

And, the matching 75 yard single ply skein:

These are on etsy HERE and HERE!

This weekend I spun up some more SparkleFluff and should be listing those two skeins tonight. They are "Neon Lights" in vivid neon pink and blue with a little black and orange in there, too, and "Electric Avenue" which is similar in color, but is dominated by black merino. Those should be posted tomorrow!

Party Girl!

If you've ever looked at my yarns, you may notice that I *love* spinning up the Sparklefluff Batts from MaryJanesAttic.etsy.com! My latest yarn is a single ply spun from two 1 oz Sparklefluff Batts called "Party Girl". I kept the name "Party Girl" for this yarn since it reminds me of the movie with Parker Posey--and since I *am* a librarian that movie holds a special little place in my heart! :)

Here is the new yarn:

This yarn is *not* on etsy, it is on my brand new website kittygrrlz.com
I've actually had the website for quite awhile, but recently have been having someone work on it a little and customize it for me. I want to keep the website design simple and clean to make shopping on it nice and easy! I will continue to list on etsy, but will also be adding certain items to the website instead.

I also spun up a second skein of "Party Girl" yarn last night! That one may go on etsy!
