The art yarns are coming, the art yarns are coming!

;) Okay, I've been saying that to myself all week because I've been determined to get back to my art yarn spinning. I've been spending so much time trying to build up inventory of my other types of yarns, that I've been neglecting my favorite yarns to spin - my FunctionArt art yarns. But, I've spun up 6 new skeins this week, have some more fiber prepped and ready to go, and even MORE fiber TO prep for even more skeins! With a show coming up, I do want to have a nice selection of colors - some will be old favorites and others will be brand new!

Two of the old favorites would have to be Plum Divine and Mahogany Midnight Moon. Both of these colors are from merino wool dyed by the Yarn Wench, and I've been spinning them as art yarns for awhile. This is my fifth time spinning "Mahogany Peacock" into two skeins of "Mahogany Midnight Moon" - both 82 yards and on etsy now - here and here.

And, of course, there is Plum Divine. I've actually lost track of how many times I've spun this one, and each time it still turns out just a little bit different, mostly because I keep running out of yarns to use and have to find a new one to replace the ones I run out of! Here are the two latest skeins spun - 80 yards and 70 yards

This week, I've also been spinning some that are more solidly-colored. I have a blue one planned to spin today, and the other day I spun this one - Madeira - this was spun from hand dyed superwash merino wool dyed by Cloudlover in her new Madeira colorway. I spun in lots of orangey yarns and plied with orange thread. It's not only orange, though, it has gold and bit of brown in there, too, though orange definitely dominates. I have two skeins - 62 yards and 66 yards.

I'll still be sneaking in some other types of yarns over the next two weeks, but you'll also definitely be seeing more art yarns coming! :)

New Yarns & a Weekend Deals Scarf Sale!

First, I have to say that I probably won't be online much during this upcoming week, as I will be busy busy busy spinning yarn for the Knit-In on March 14 in Madison, Wisconsin. I hope to have lots of new bamboo skeins spun for it, along with some new art yarns, and of course other yarns, too. I will still be listing at least one new yarn a day on etsy, but may not list everything I spin. Any yarns spun, not listed, and not sold at the Knit-In will be listed on March 15-16th.

Second, I am having a WEEKEND DEALS SALE in my Kitty Grrlz Knits Etsy shop! Free shipping in the USA and Half Price International Shipping on all items, PLUS $10 off ALL SCARVES! I am not sure I will continue to knit this year, as the spinning is really keeping me busy, so I would love to clear out some of my knits inventory. If I DO decide to keep knitting, then it also will clear some room in my "knit-bin". ;) Please check it out HERE.

Finally, here is a new art yarn listed today on etsy -

FunctionArt - Mahogany Midnight Moon - two skeins - 86 and 82 yards

Now it's time for me to get spinning!

Just a quickie picture post

Here are just a few pictures from the new yarns I spun up over the weekend (more coming this afternoon, too!) Clicking on the pictures should take you to the Etsy Listing.

Vegas, baby! Hand Spun Two-Ply bamboo yarn spun from two of LOOP's "Chocolate Liqueur" batts.

Then, there is "Radioactive Chance" - after working on the two-ply most of Saturday, I decided to ignore my to-do list, my to-spin list, and all the already-prepped fiber, and spin this. It's just . . . different from my normal colors so thought I'd take a chance on it . . .

Three new single plys - all from Falkland wool dyed by the Yarn Wench.

Orchid Sunset 2

Watermelon Sky
Aqua Lime Light

And, finally, another skein of Mahogany Midnight Moon as an art yarn. I love this colorway! I have about 2 oz left of it but am not sure if I want to do another art yarn skein, or a coordinating CoilySpun skein!

And, I'll probably be mentioning this every day this week - but if you are in the Madison, Wisconsin are this SATURDAY, JUNE 28 - come by the HIGH NOON SALOON for the SUMMER CRAFTACULAR! I will be there, along with many other great hand made vendors. Hours are from 10am-4pm.

That's all from me for today!

Mahogany Midnight Moon Revisited & more!

Here are a couple pictures of the new skein of Mahogany Midnight Moon that I mentioned yesterday. It is now on etsy and my website.

I also spun up a quick Novel-Ply yarn the other night, too. It is spun from the remaining fiber used for the "Compendium" art yarn. This one is a small skein plied with Berroco Plume FX yarn. Very bright! I still have more of this color so may be spinning more art yarn skeins with it, or possibly a single ply!

And, here is a sneak peek at what I spun up last night! It is another art yarn, spun from merino wool hand dyed by the Yarn Wench - color called Aqualime Explosion! I have more of this, too, so should have another skein or more coming soon. This one will be listed later today:

Not sure what I'll have to offer next week - this weekend I have some custom skeins to spin up, some shawls to knit, and some more bamboo to spin. Next week may also be focused on knitting shawls for my show on April 12. I WILL be getting back to the art yarns soon, but I'm just not sure when. I also have a lot of partial-fiber-batches to finish up so over the next couple of weeks you may be seeing some repeats - at this time I've got more Aqualime Explosion, more Kilkenny/Compendium, more Hot Tropics/Spring Break, and more Eye Candy on the horizon. THEN, it will be time for some new colors!

Wild Birds

Morning all! Here are some better pictures of the new yarn I mentioned yesterday!

It is now listed on etsy and will be on my website very soon.

Last night, I opted to spin a new yarn instead of doing the second skein of Wild Birds. This one is from a color called "Mahogany Peacock", hand dyed merino wool from the Yarn Wench. It is one of my absolute favorite colorways ever! I was so happy when she dyed more of it! Here are a couple of pictures of the other yarns I have made with this color, and also the items I knit with the previous art yarn:

Navajo 3-ply

Previous art yarns (two skeins)
And, the hat and scarf I knit with the art yarns:

It was one of my most favorite yarns I've ever spun so when I had the chance at the color again, I jumped at it. I finished the first skein last night. I still have half of this fiber batch to spin and also another 4 oz batch. I'm not sure I'll do art yarns with the other 4 oz, but I am with the first batch. Here is a sneak peak of the first skein spun last night (should be listed later today with much better pictures - the blue is a little more teal/peacock than the picture shows).

As you can see, it is slightly different than the first yarn. I used some different novelties this time and also did some coils/beehives while plying. Again, the blue isn't quite right, and it is plied with shiny rayon thread in color "peacock". I look forward to spinning the matching skein (probably tomorrow) and also figuring out what to do with the second batch!
