I have a lot more than I thought, so I'm going to break this into 2 posts today. First, I'll be posting the larger batches of fiber and LOOP babycakes, and later tonight I'll be posting smaller amounts of loose fibers organized into lots by color. In most cases, I've posted a new picture of the fiber, but in some cases (those where I just can't get the colors right), I'm including a link to the original listing on the Yarn Wench site (since most of these are from there).

A productive day . . sortof

Yesterday did turn out to be a pretty productive day! I finished up a scarf I'd had on the needles for a few weeks, and knit two more, and started a 4th! yay! I also spun up another art yarn - pictures of that one tomorrow. I also listed the 3 yarns spun on Sunday. Had some trouble with taking pictures of the first two skeins - those blues and purples give me such trouble - but here they are -

Arctic Princess - spun from hand dyed merino wool, with novelty yarns spun in and plied with shiny metallic thread - 98 yards. Colors are dark but bright blue, light ice blue, and light pink -

Then there is the matching Hello Kitty Grrlz skein! This one is similar, but is plied with 3 colors of thread strung with Hello Kitty face beads in 3 colors - pink, blue, and purple. There are over 60 beads!
And, finally, here is "RiddleBox" - spun from a Spontaneous Spinning Batt from Loop - in shades of dark purple and plum and shades of green -

New yarns

It was another late night last night (or early morning, depending on how you look at it!) but I did get 5 yarns spun yesterday! Those should be listed later today . . .

This post will be for the yarns from Monday - two Batt-tacular! Singles spun from Spontaneous Spinning batts from LOOP. The first is "Dazzling Dusk" - 150 yards, 4.1 oz, DK weight -

And, the second is "Pretty in Pinkish" - 100 yards, 3.4 oz, more worsted weight and slightly thick n thin. I also have 10 yards of an art yarn for this one since that is what I was originally going to spin with the batt - but it has a lot of bamboo in it and I prefer not to spin bamboo into art yarns - anyways, here it is -

I also finished this two-ply spun from the Chocolate Liqueur bamboo batts (also from Loop). This one is for a custom spin -
And, also these coils, which I think will also be for a special request -

Today, I've got some more coils to do and I think I'll be spinning another "Squish-tastic!" 2ply, this time with a merino/tencel blend as the thin ply. I've got 5 yarns to photograph and list - all but one are "Batt-tacular!" yarns, plied with thread and spun from various batts from TerraBellaSpun and one from FeltStudioUK. The fifth yarn is a single ply of the Chocolate Liqueur batt!

I sure am no Tiger Woods . . .

So, for those who don't live with ESPN on in the background (as I seem to do) or follow golf - Tiger Woods won the US Open this past weekend. Well, actually on Monday. After 19 *extra* holes. On a bad knee. But, we didn't know HOW bad until more recently.

Apparently, he has a torn ACL (which from what I gather with football is pretty serious) AND . . . a double stress fracture!?!? He will have season-ending surgery . . .

Now, it is amazing enough that HE WON THE US OPEN with these injuries, but apparently he's been at least partially injured since LAST JULY.

I am truly amazed and impressed. I did happen to catch most of the rounds of the Open and it really was exciting. Some of the shots he made - and the tension and drama of how close it was and the finish on Monday? Spectacular!

(Part of me can't even believe I am saying this about *golf* of all things! I never really considered golf a "sport" until now, I guess. It was mostly a good thing to have on in the background as it is generally quiet and . . . well, boring.)

I think it is a total shame that he will miss the rest of the season and I feel bad for golf, overall, in a way, as he is such a big draw - BUT, it is a *great* opportunity for some young (or old! Go Rocco!) players to be noticed. With Tiger out it really does give a chance to some of the players that are good but just can't compete with Tiger.

There is and will be much debate about whether he should have played through the injury (he did against doctor's orders) but, really, given the little I know of him, I can't imagine him NOT playing.

And, before I tie this in to the title of this post - let me just say YAY BOSTON!!! FINALLY, we won a Las Vegas sports bet!!! I, of course, wasn't wise enough to bet on the Celtics, but my boyfriend was, so while it isn't a HUGE payout, he won the bet he made last October that the Celtics would win!!!! Woohoo!!!! I really think it was a given that they were going to win. They were on fire ALL SEASON. AND - this is the crucial point in my opinion - they were a TEAM. Basketball (unlike, say, GOLF) is a TEAM SPORT. Even though you had 3 huge stars (apparently, I really don't know much about basketball) - they PLAYED TOGETHER to win! As great as Kobe Bryant is - I don't believe one player can carry an entire team that far!

So, yay for the Celtics!

Now, back to the title. I am so pathetic. Great athletes can apparently play through torn ligaments, broken legs, the flu, and more . . while me??? I can't even spin through a lousy HEADACHE!?!?!?

Seriously, I am pretty disgusted with myself this morning. Yesterday when I got home from work, I had a headache (kinda the norm for this week if ya know what i mean) but i still tried to do my usual - take pictures (i only had one yarn, though), do my etsy listing, eat, and then get to work . . .

I started out okay - got pictures taken of my new yarn, spun from LOOP's BeautyBerries batt -

And did get it listed on etsy. I ate. And then that's where it all went down hill . . .

I took an Aleve and decided to lie down - just for a little bit, I figured I'd be up and spinning by around 7pm (it was around 5:30pm) . . . that would still have given me a good 3 hours of spinning time.

That is not how it went. I pretty much didn't get up until THIS MORNING. I am so disappointed. I didn't get *any* spinning done! I did prep a little bit of fiber (I have some new Kitty Singles coming soon!) but that was it! An entire night wasted! I guess once I am doing this full-time, one missed day won't kill me, but . . .right now I've got a lot to do - commissions to finish, a show at the end of the month to get ready for, a fiber festival in July . . . and, what do I do? Sleep.

So, while Tiger can win a championship on a broken leg and bad knee . . . all it takes is a stupid headache to knock me out!

So, about all of that bamboo . . .

I have spun up about half of the 8 pounds I received last week!! It seems to be all i AM spinning! Here are some shots of the colors still available on etsy:

So, yeah, I've been busy spinning up all of that bamboo fiber. I have about 3.5 pounds left! I want to spin some of them into two-plys, but will have at least 3 more single ply colors coming soon.

But, soon, I will be doing some more coily spins and art yarn spins! I got these in the mail yesterday:

and they are just calling to me to be spun! They are Spontaneous Spinning Batts from LOOP. It's actually a miracle I was able to snag them! The update was very very late on Friday night and the only reason I was awake for it??? I was spinning bamboo!!!

Fiber Heaven!

Yesterday I received two amazing packages - a box of approximately *8 pounds* of bamboo fiber for spinning . . . AND, a HUGE envelope packed with LOOP babycakes! Ahhh, heaven! These pictures aren't the best, but just in case you'd like to see what . . .

What's a shame, though, is I'd love to dive right in to the babycakes, but will have to wait - the bamboo is what is in need of my attention for the next week . .. or two. My Ravelry ad *should* start running tomorrow, which means I want to have new bamboo listed every day for the next two weeks!? Not sure it will be possible, but . . . we'll see. I've also got a few art yarns I want to spin, and some more batts . . . and . . .

Never enough time!

I do have a couple new yarns to share as well. The first is another "Batt-tacular!" yarn spun from a batt of merino and superwash wools and glitz from TerraBellaSpun. Here is "Blue Copper Night" -

And, the second is "Copper Flash Sky" - a "Novel-Ply" yarn spun from handdyed merino wool and plied with Moda Dea Fur-Ever yarn.

Last night, I spun up a bright aqua and violet FunctionArt art yarn- two skeins from hand dyed merino wool (dyed by the Yarn Wench). I'm thinking one skein is already spoken for, but I should have one available to list later today. Here is a sneak peak -

I do have another batch of this fiber color, so may even spin up two more skeins!

Spontaneous Spinning Batts - spun!

So, for anyone into fiber/spinning, you may be aware of LOOP - her batts were on the cover of Spin-Off magazine recently, and the demand has definitely increased for her wonderful fiber batts. But, none of them compare to her "Spontaneous Spinning Batts" - from her listing, this is a description of the batts:

"Spontaneous Spinning Batts are lumpy, bumpy, super textured spinning batts inspired by an awesome experience I had at Camp Plucky Fluff! These OOAK batts are an exercise in NOT thinking and letting spontaneity take over. I have so much fun making these batts but you'll have even more fun spinning them! They are carded to intentionally create lumps and bumps in the fiber with loads of color and lots of goodies like glitz, locks, yarn scraps, sari silk, silk noils and even sequins carded in! They are near impossible to get - when they appear in her shop they are gone in SECONDS! Seriously, I know. But, a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to snag *two* of them! And, both in two of my favorite colors . . . . which also happen to be the colors in my logo - orange and purple!

The first one - Purple Progression. I LOVE purple, so this batt was perfect! And, so fun to spin! It contained Corriedale wool, bamboo, alpaca, silk, and merino with a little sparkle, too. I spun in 6 different purple yarns - 3 light and 3 dark - and then plied with shiny light purple thread. The pictures don't quite do it justice, but here is the finished yarn - Plum Perfect Purple:

The second one, well, is quite opposite! The batt was called "Creamsicle" and has shades of orange, yellow and white in it for just an amazing brightness! The fibers in this one are bamboo, silk, alpaca, wool, and of course glitz. I spun in yellow and orange yarns and plied with a variegated orange/yellow/white thread. The blends of fibers give this one a really interesting texture - mostly soft/smooth but with some bumpy parts from the yarns spun in and the wool. I'm calling this skein, "You Are My Sunshine" :
Alas, these are the only two "SSBs" I've had the luxury to spin, but I did join her "Spontaneous Spinning Club" which means I will be getting one new batt each month! Yay! I've also got some batches of "babycakes" on the way, which will be combined for various types of yarns . . .

While I would love to spin nothing but SSBs and babycakes, I do have other fiber to spin, and recently had the joy of trying out a new fiber seller - FeltStudioUK . I was asked to spin up the "Forest" batts . . . I made sure I got extra fiber so purchased two batt lots - and with the smaller one I spun up this yarn:


This smaller skein IS available as I will be spinning a slightly different skein with the other batch for the custom request.

I spun up yet another batt last night - this one from TerraBellaSpun - and that one should be listed later today. It is pretty shades of purple and blue (with shades in between) and black, plied with three threads to match the lighter colors. It also has a bit of sparkle in it! Since it is mostly merino wool, it turned out as a soft & squishy bulky yarn!

Tonight, I'll be stepping away from the batts for a bit and will be spinning up some merino top hand dyed by the Yarn Wench. Or Bamboo. Or both. We'll see! :)

A few new things . . . .

So, I guess I've been a slacker this week in posting. I've just been so tired and haven't had much to say . . . . of course, I always have pictures to share, though, so today I thought I'd get caught up on some of the newest yarns I have . . .

First, I have the "LoopCoilyPuff" yarns that I showed on Tuesday - these are spun from Babycakes from Loop - small mini batts of fibery goodness! These three were spun from various "cakes" and then plied with thread with coils, beehives, and puffs of fiber throughout!

Choco-Plum - spun from 2 brown and 1 purple - 42 yards, 1.6 oz

Pink-Plum - spun from 2 pink and 2 purple - 62 yards, 2.2 oz

Ocean Waves - spun from 4 blue/green - 72 yards, 3.3 oz

I also spun up my first Loop Spontaneous Spinning Batt! This is the one called "Seascape". It is mostly bamboo, with some alpaca, merino/tencel, Corriedale, and a bit of glitz, spun into a thicker DK weight single ply yarn. I'm calling it "Mint Julep".

I've been spinning some art yarns - but I believe they are already spoken for, but if not they will be listed later today. I've got -

I'll be spinning some more art yarns this weekend, and probably some more Batt spins, too. I've got about 10 pounds of bamboo coming soon, so want to get some art yarns and batt-tacular yarns done before it arrives! I'm just looking forward to the weekend so that maybe I can finally catch up on my sleep . . .

Mad-Town Rocks! (and Plum Grove)

So, my show this past weekend was actually really good!! It was at a mall in Madison, and can I just say - Madison rocks! There are definitely a lot of knitters there so instead of selling mostly hand knits (which is what I *thought* would sell) - I sold yarn!! I always prefer when the yarn sells, since I really do enjoy spinning more than knitting right now. That's not to say I don't like knitting - it's just right now I'd rather be spinning. Honestly, there isn't much I would RATHER do than spin . . .

At the show, which WAS long - 11 hours on Saturday and 7 hours on Sunday and that was just the "open" hours - I was there early both days! - I got A LOT of spinning done! Yay! Since I hadn't spun much in the days leading up to the show, it was actually really great to just sit and spin all day. Here are the yarns that I finished:

Plum Grove - Navajo 3-ply in Merino Wool/Silk blend. This fiber is an 80% merino/20% silk blend hand dyed by the Yarn Wench as a special request. (You know I can't seem to get enough of this colorway!). I spun one batch into this Navajo 3-ply skein, 200 yards total of thinner worsted weight:
With the other batch of merino/silk, I spun a thin strand, that I used in a different yarn (I'll show that one in just a second) but had a bit left over to make this smaller 80 yard skein:

The other yarn I spun was the bulky 2-plys I like to do - spun from one thick/thin strand of merino wool, and then plied with the thinner strand of merino/silk. I also ended up with one large and one small skein. Here is the large, 136 yards, 4.3 oz!

And, the Mini Skein of 46 yards:
This week I plan on spinning up some art yarns, but first I just *had* to spin some of the "Babycakes" I got from LOOP last week! First, I selected some that I thought would work well together (since they are small little "mini-batts" of fiber, I wanted to combine them for a longer yarn) . . . here is a shot of the ones I chose:
Each row was spun into a separate yarn, in my "Rocky Roads" style - plied with thread with coils along the way! I finished quite late last night so was only able to take some shots of the yarn (before setting the twist) in my crappy night lighting - but here is one (I'll have better ones later today!)

They are VERY textured and sparkly! They'll be listed on etsy and my website later today!

Busy spinning weekend!

So, this weekend was pretty great in that I spun ALOT. Saturday alone I spun *6* skeins of yarn! Yay! I love days when I can get that much done. I didn't do quite as much on Sunday, but still got some more bamboo spun up . . . . before I get to pictures of this weekend's spinning, I just want to mention that over on DancingMooney's blog, "Random Musings About Art, and Life" it is the time for here What's in the Bag? Now, on to the pictures . . .

First, the bamboo. This first yarn is another spin of bamboo two-ply, the color I've been calling "Summer Carnival". This batch was spun just a bit thinner, so it turned out to be more DK than Worsted weight. I've got 306 yards! This may or may not be a special request, but either way I do hope to have it listed soon. It was spun by me from hand dyed bamboo fiber from the FiberLady.

More bamboo - this was actually spun up on Sunday . . . again, fiber from FiberLady, hand dyed bamboo . . . I'm calling these "Violets R Blue", though it was spun from her "Ocean Dusk" colorway. Again, one or both might be spoken for already, but if not, they will be listed soon, too.

The top skein is 220 yards and the bottom is 170 - both sport weight.

Then, there were the single plys! I spun up one on Friday. This deserves a little special attention because it is my first LOOP batt! Naomi of Ryono Creations was kind enough to share one her LOOP batts (I believe it was Sunset Spectacle). I received it on Thursday but couldn't spin it until Friday . . . . and all I can say is . . . WOW! It was so wonderful to spin, I think it was the alpaca in it that made it such a smooth spin, and the recycled silk added texture and color, plus the merino wool . . . just, well, it was so great I could resist no longer and joined her "Spontaneous Spinning Club" - one "Spontaneous Spinning Batt" a month for the next 6 months! I can't wait for my first one! Anyways, here is a picture of the single ply yarn - I'm calling it "Sunset Wish" and it is now listed on etsy and my website. It is 130 yards, mostly DK weight with some thicker sections and very soft!
Then, on Saturday, I did spin up two more single ply yarns from hand dyed Falkland wool, dyed by the Yarn Wench. The first is "Strawberry Mocha Creme" (from the roving of the same name) and it is 165 yards of DK weight yarn. I just love these colors and actually spun up some bamboo in similar colors last night!

"Golden Peacock" is 155 yards of DK weight as well, spun from the colorway "Titian".

I also spun up some more "Eye Candy"! I had been planning on spinning up the last batch of fiber I had in this colorway, but got an extra incentive when I had a query about it . . . SO, I spun up two skeins, but only one is still available:


And, finally, later on Saturday night (I finished these around 10pm!), were two more skeins of "Turquoise Sands Surprise" Novel-Ply Yarn. I liked the first skein so much, and since I did still have some of the remaining fiber from my alchemy request, I decided it would become two more Novel-Ply skeins. Both are spun thick/thin (merino wool, of course) and then plied with super soft Angel Hair Yarn. Both are available now.


So, I think that is it! Tonight, it is more bamboo and some knitting . . . tomorrow I hope to venture into some art yarn spinning again . . . we'll see.
